The objective of the research is to find the empirical evidence of the effectiveness of using songs in teaching vocabulary for the fifth grade students of elementary school in the SDN Daan Mogot 03, Tangerang in the 2013/2014 academic year. The writer used R-O-T-O design in the research. The pre-test to find out the students‟ initial ability in vocabulary, it was held on August, 21st 2013, the writer did the treatment, it was held on Agust, 23th to September, 11th 2013 and after the treatment, the writer gave the post-test to find out it is whether or not effective to used songs in teaching vocabulary, it was held on September 13th, 2013.
The writer used a pre-experimental method in this research. The population of the research was two classes of the fifth grade students of SDN Daan Mogot 03, Tangrang, they are 72 students. Each class consist of 36 students. The samples were the atudents of one class randomly taken from two classes, it was 5B class.
The finding of this research shows that songs technique was effective in teaching vocabulary to the students. The result of the research shows that the ttable is 1.68 and the tobserved is 7.95, it is higher than ttable. It means that there is significant progress in students‟ vocabulary. Based on the explanation, the reseach can be accepted that the uses of songs are effective in teaching vocabulary at the fifth grade students of elementary school of SDN 03 Daan Mogot, Tangerang in the 2013/2014 academic year.
