DINI HANIFA. 1001065056. An Error Analysis of Narrative Writing of The
Eleventh Grade Students of SMAN 106 Jakarta In The 2013/2014 Academic
Year. A Paper, The Study Program of English Education, The School of Teacher
Training and Education. The University of Muhammadiyah Prof. DR. HAMKA,
Jakarta, 2014.
The objective of the study in this paper is to find out the common types and
sources of errors made by the eleventh grade students of SMAN 106. In collecting
the data the writer administered a guided task on narrative writing. Then, the
writer analyzed the writing errors done by the students. This research was
conducted at SMAN 106 Jakarta. The writer took 25 students as a sample in this
research.
The study showed that the most typical errors in the students’ writing errors are
errors in add a word 25.4 %, errors in omit a word 25.2 %, errors in punctuation
13.7 %, errors in word choice 12.7 %, errors in verb tense 10 %, errors in
capitalization 6.2 %, errors in spelling 2.63 %, errors in singular plural 0.72 %,
errors in incomplete sentence 0.72 %, errors in article 0.64 %, errors in meaning
not clear 0.64 %, errors in run on sentence 0.54 %, errors in word order with 0.54
%, and errors in word form 0.37 %.
Based on the data, the errors are mostly made because of their lack of grammar
rules and lack of knowledge in foreign language learning. It can be said that
intralingual transfer and context of learning are the most typical sources of errors.
It indicates that most of students need more treatment and remedial teaching from
the teacher toward their errors in English writing and the students of SMAN 106
Jakarta still need more practice in order to develop their writing skill.
