SYIFAH AZIZAH. 0701065198. An Item Analysis of the English Summative
Test for The Seventh Grade Student of The First Semester of the 2011/2012 Academic Year at MTsN 35 Jakarta. Paper, Jakarta: The study Program of English Education, Department of Language and Arts, The School of Teacher?s Training and education. University of Prof. Dr. HAMKA. The objective of the study is to find out whether test items are needed to be revised or maintained. The writer also would like to find out whether the test can be categorized as a good test which must poses qualitative criteria, namely the difficulty level, the discrimination power and the effectiveness of distracters.
This research is administered at MTsN 35 Jakarta in the 2011/2012 academic year for the seventh grade students on 15th December 2011. This research is a kind of descriptive qualitative method. It describes quality of the test based on the Difficulty Level, Discriminating Power, and The Effectiveness of Distracters of the each item. The writer took 38 students out of 76 students as the data sample of the research. The object is a set of the English
summative test for the seventh grade student of the first semester of the 2011/2012 academic year at MTsN 35 Jakarta including the answer key and the students? sheets. The conclusion of the research of the item analysis show that the medium criteria of the difficulty level are 20 items or 50% are able to fulfill the qualification of difficulty level, and 28 items or 70% of the items of discriminating power are satisfactory criteria are able to fulfill the qualification of
discriminating power. Based on that analysis the writer generally concluded that the English summative test of the first semester of the 2011/2012 academic year at MTsN 35 Jakarta has a good test because the item showed that there are 7 items or 17.5% are revised and 33 items or 82.5% are accepted.
