ASTRI PARAPAT. Error Analysis of Students? Narrative Writing on the
Eight Grade of SMP Nasional Bekasi. Paper, Jakarta: The Study Program of English Education the School of Teacher Training and Education the University of Muhammadiyah Prof. DR. HAMKA, 2009.
This research was conducted at SMP Nasional Bekasi on the Eight Grade students. The purpose of the study is to find out the most typical errors and the cause of error which are made by the students in writing. In this research the writer uses descriptive method. In collecting the data the writer administers a kind of writing test
to students. Then, the writer analyzes the writing errors done by the students. The result of the research revealed that common errors on the students? writing ability were errors in the word choice (19%), errors in omit a word (13.5%), errors in verb tense (9.5%), errors in add a word (9.5%), errors in spelling (8.8%), errors in article (7.7%), errors in word order (6.9%), errors in word form (5.9%),
errors in capitalization (5.5%), errors in incomplete sentences (4.8%), errors in singular-plural (3%), errors in meaning not clear (2.2%), errors in run-on sentence (2.2%), errors in punctuation (1.5%).
The result of the research revealed that common errors on the sources of error were in overgeneralization (44.7%), ignorance of rule restriction (23.5%), interlingual (11.8%), false concepts hypothesized (11.2%) and incomplete application of rule (8.8%). It indicates that some students need more treatment and remedial teaching
from the teacher toward their errors in English writings.
