Paper. Jakarta: The Study Program of English Education the School of Teacher Training and Education the University of Muhammadiyah Prof. DR. HAMKA, 2012. This study was intended to measure the readability levels of the reading texts in the English textbook, entitled Developing English Competencies 2, written by Achmad Doddy, Ahmad Sugeng and Effendi and published by Setia Purna Inves 2009. The book was for the eleventh grade students of SMAN 46 Jakarta in the 2011/2012 Academic Year. The study was expected to give a contribution to the teacher of SMAN 46 Jakarta in selecting English reading texts which have been appropriate for the students? English competence and the objective of the reading lessons. This research was held at SMAN 46 on 13th and 27th of March 2012 on the second semester in the 2011/2012 Academic Year Jakarta. The school locates in Jalan Masjid Darussalam Kav. 23-25, Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta Selatan. The writer employed a descriptive qualitative method and the instrument which was used was cloze test. The respondents of this research were the eleventh grade students of SMAN 46 Jakarta. The writer took 7 reading texts to represent each theme. In this matter, the students were given the texts and they were asked to fill in the blank with the appropriate word. Based on the result, this research has revealed that the most dominant readability level in the textbook is Independent Level which has the percentage 57.14%. It means that the reading texts of an English textbook entitled Developing English Competencies 2 are not suitable for the eleventh grade students of SMAN 46 Jakarta in the 2011/2012 Academic Year. It indicates that the textbook cannot be used as a teaching material in classroom. Consequently, the reading texts that are grouped in the Independent and Frustration Level must be changed by the teacher into reading texts which have the Instructional Readability Level.
