Abstrak
Escherichia Coli is a commensal bacteria living in the human and animal digestive tracts. Many studies have been conducted on E.Coli isolated from human, animal, food, and water, while little is known about the presence and genetic diversity of E.coli obtained from street foods. If the street foods are not handled or processed properly, they may endanger the health of the children, because E.coli contamination has known to be an agent causing diarrheal disease.
This study showed that street foods from Jakarta elementary school are poor in sanitation and quality. While for genetic diversity analyzed, E.coli isolates showed an extensive genetic diversity even for isolates from the same sample. The result indicated that ERIC-PCR analysis could be useful and effevtive tool for rapid study of genetic.
