The study aims at finding out students perception on the effectiveness of the translation course at English Department of State of Jakarta in reference to the effective translation course method theories. The study uses descriptive analysis approach and survey technique. The study uses questionnaire that contains 34 statements and 5 open questions. The instrument was distributed to 40 students of non pedagogic study program of 2002 and 2003 generations at English Department of State University of Jakarta. The questionnaire was constructed based on the translation teaching methodology recommended by some experts in teaching translation. This study was carried out in January to April 2007 at English Department, State University of Jakarta. The result of the study shows the students perception that; the lecturers of the translation course are qualified and competent in translation and translation teaching; the teaching of text comprehension, translation strategies and its implementation are inadequate; and the variation and specificity of text for translation practice and relevance to the students real need world of work are still deficient.
