This quantitative research has an objective that is to know the readability of the reading texts in the English textbook entitled Competence-Based English written by Anwar Sofyanda et al and published by Grafindo Media Pratama. This research was held on 4th and 5th May 2007 on Jl. Rs. Fatmawati South of Jakarta. For getting the data the writer used a descriptive quantitative method and the instrument was a cloze test. It consists of 7 reading texts completed by the students. The research has proved that the reading texts in Competence-Based English has percentage 70% on the Independent Level of readability. It indicates that the reading texts are not suitable for students because the reading texts are too easy for them. It means that the students can comprehend the reading texts even without help from their teacher.
