 Abstrak
The study is intended to obtain the information and the empirical data concerning to the readability level of reading texts in Efective English 2 Textbook written by Soegeng HS published by Tiga Serangkai 2005, for the second grade students of SMPN 3 Ciledug Tangerang of the 2006/2007 Academic Year. The result of this research is expected to give a contribution for the teachers of SMPN 3 Ciledug Tangerang that they have to be more selective on choosing the most suitable English reading texts which are in line with the students? English competence. This research was held on 9th ? 10th February 2007 on the second semester of the 206/2007 academic year at SMPN 3 Ciledug Tangerang which is located on Jl. Ciledug Raya Tangerang. The method of this research is a case study which is a descriptive quantitative and the instrument which is used is cloze test. The subject of this research is the second grade students of SMPN 3 Ciledug Tangerang. The writer took 7 reading texts representing each theme which is selected based on the text types in Efective English 2 textbook written by Soegeng HS published by Tiga Serangkai 2005. In this case, the students are given the texts and they are asked to fill in the blank with the appropriate words. Based on the analysis, this research finds that the reading texts in Efective English 2 textbook written by Soegeng HS published by Tiga Serangkai 2005, for the second grade students of SMPN 3 Ciledug Tangerang have the percentage 50 % on the instructional level of readability. It means that the reading texts are comprehensible to understand by the students with the teacher?s assistances. It indicates that the reading texts are readable for the second grade students of SMPN 3 Ciledug Tangerang
