The objective of this research is to find out whether the English summative test for the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Cisoka has good quality or not by analyzing the difficulty level and the discriminating power. This research was conducted at SMPN 1 Cisoka on September 2009. The data of this research consists of 40 multiple choice items. The answer sheet consists of 40 sheets which are separated into 25% of upper group and 25% of lower group. In analyzing the difficulty level and discriminating power, the writer uses the formula suggested by Heaton. After analyzing the difficulty level and discriminating power, it is discovered from 40 multiple choice items, there are 25 items can be reused in the future test, 11 items need to be revised, and 4 items need to be discarded.
