HERI SURYONO. NIM: 0801067007. Relationship between Vocabulary Mastery and Reading Comprehension of the Eight Grade Students of SMPN 22 Tangerang in the 2010/2011 Academic Year. A Paper, Jakarta, FKIP of Muhammadiyah University of Prof. Dr. HAMKA, 2011. The objective of the research is to get the empirical evidence whether or not there is a significant relationship between the vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension in learning and teaching reading process on the eighth grade students of SMPN 22 Tangerang. The population of the research was the eighth grade students of SMPN 22 Tangerang in the second semester of 2010/2011 academic year consisting of 140 students. They were divided into four classes. The purposive cluster sampling technique was used to take the sample where the writer chose one of the classes consisting 31 students as the sample of the research. The writer used vocabulary test and reading comprehension test as the instrument of the research. The data was analyzed by the Pearson?s Product Moment Correlation formula with the level of significant P = 0.95. The result of the data analysis found that the value of rh (coefficient correlation) is 3.74. Meanwhile on the level of significance 0.95, rt = 1.70. Based on the result, it can be seen that the value of rh is higher than the value of rt (3.74 > 1.70). It means that there is relationship between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension on the eighth grade students of SMPN 22 Tangerang on the 2010/2011 academic year.
