Abstrak
The objective of the study is to find out the quality of English summative test item for seventh grade students at SMPN 245 in 2011- 2012 academic year. This study is an evaluative analysis f English summative test prepared by English teachers of state junior high school 245 of Jakarta. This research conducted by the researcher herself, so the instrument is the research herself. Based on classification of the research method, this is a qualitative research because it simply analyzes data inductively by categorizing and organizing the data into pattern that produce a descriptive report. Hence, the researcher as the role as main instrument in collecting data. The researcher also cinducts data analyzing, data interpretation, drawing conclusion and writing final report. The research took three steps are considered as important process in judging degree of validity of test item. The step consists of analyzing item difficulty index, index discrimination. Based on the results of analysis in terms difficulty index, the test item consist of 46% of easy items, 50% of medium items, and 4% of diddicult ones. In term of, 38% of items belong to poor discriminating power, and 2% the items blong to negative discriminating power. The items belong to statisfactory category comprise 42% of the items, they are number. The items belong good category is 12% and the items belong to very good category is 16%. While, based on distracter analysis, most of distracter has function properly.
