Abstrak
This research is aimed at finding out the contribution of linguistic competence and home environment toward reading comprehension skills in Indonesian texts especially in Junior High School in Sleman, Yogyakarta. A number of 338 students from 9 schools are choosen as samples using multiple-stage stratified random sampling technique. The instruments were in the form of a test and questionnaire. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive and regression analyst. Result of multiple-regression analysis shows that there was a significant combined effect of home environment and school environment on reading skills in Indonesian texts with a contribution of 22.80 %. This research can be used to improve the quality of teachers as well as the parental involvement in facilitating and motivating the children to read.
