Abstrak
This paper aims at describing the concepts of promoting autonomous learning using technology. At present, the use of technology such as internet sites put on-line by independent, autonomous and self-acess language learning center vary considerably in the amount and type of information they provide for their various types of users. Technology is claimed can promote autonomous learning simply by offering the possibility of self-study. However promoting learner autonomy with technology under Indonesia setting is still a debated topic, one of the objections is due to the cultural constraint that Indonesia culture will not allow the idea of autonomy. Rather than autonomy, the idea of togotherness is more aptly implemented, in other words, in education setting the idea of collaborative learning is more preferable than autonomy.
