Abstrak
many studies have found the significant role of language learning strategies (LLS) towards the success of language learning. Strategy training promises to improve language learning and leads to learner autonomy: learners being indipendent from teachers, linguistic norms,need assesment, and classroom;while teachers being a facilitator ,a counselour and a resource.There are six approaches to foster autonomy:resource-based,technology-based,learner-based,classrom based, curriculum-based,and teacher-based approaches. To gain it,decision markers need to review the language policy,re-plan and consider the status of english in indonesia- making English a second language. in addition,school prinsipals as well as teachers should initiate bilingual education, which is theoretically based upon communicative competence emphasizing the socially appropriate and meeaningful use of language, knowing how to effectively use language rather than knowing about the languages
