Abstrak
The objective of this research is to investigate and to describe the readability level in reading passages of ?Learning English 2A? textbook written by Lufina Siagian and Winarni for the eleventh grade students of SMK Surya Darma Jakarta. The method of this research is a content analysis. The sample of this research is a textbook entitled ?Learning English 2A? written by Lufina Siagian and Winarni which is published by PT. Galaxy Puspa Mega. The research was held in July 13 till July 21, 2009 at SMK Surya Darma Jakarta. In collecting data, the writer used a cloze test as an instrument of the research and exact scoring method as a scoring technique of the research. From the recapitulation of the readability level of reading passages of ?Learning English 2A? textbook, the result of this research shows that there are three texts which have frustration level and instructional level of readability. They are ?Jeffrey Hamilton? with 37.8 % is the frustration level because it is less than 40 % from frustration level, ?Handling The Guest or Customers? 39.07 % is the frustration Level because it is less than 40 % from frustration level, ?Being a Chief? with 40.93 % is the instructional level because it is between 40 to 50 % from the instructional level. The result of whole texts is 39.27 % from frustration level because it is less than 40 % from the frustration level. It means the total score of all texts are difficult to comprehend by the students of eleventh grade of SMK Surya Darma Jakarta. It indicates that most students need to have big concern in reading to develop their reading comprehension and increase their vocabulary.
