Abstrak
The objective of this research is to find out the most typical errors made by the students in writing. The writer used a descriptive method. In collecting the data the writer administers a kind of writing test to the students. Then, the writer analyzed the errors made by the students. This research was conducted at the second grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 9 which consists of 23 students. From the findings of the research, the writer comes to a conclusion that the most typical errors in the students? writing are errors in capitalization (26,11%), errors in singular plural (15,12%), errors in verb tense (12,37%), errors in add a word (11,68%), errors in punctuation (11,68%). The medium typical errors are errors in word choice (5,15%), errors in spelling (5,15%), errors in word form (4,46%), errors in omit a word (3,78%). The least typical errors are errors in meaning not clear (1,71%), errors in run on sentence (1,71%), errors in word order (0,68%), errors in incomplete sentence (0,34%), errors in article (0%). It shows that most of second grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah need more treatment and practice from their teacher in order to develop their writing, especially about capitalization.
