Abstrak
The research was done to find out whether the English Summative test consists of good items in view of discriminating power and difficulty level. This research was held at MTs. Fajrul Islam kalideres- West Jakarta on March 22, 2007. The samples in this research are 80 students. The English Summative test papers and the students? score recapitulation were used for collecting the data. The collected data were put in a spreadsheet called tabulation form. From the tabulation form, the proportion of the correct responses from the upper group and lower group were calculated. Then, the proportion of the Discriminating Power and Difficulty Level were calculated using the formula from Arikunto. Based on the analysis that has been done in this writing, the writer finds out that there are three items which are considered excellent. Their percentage are 6%. 18 items are good. Their percentage are 36%. 11 items are categorized satisfactory. Their percentage are 22% and 18 items are categorized poor. Their percentage are 36%. 14 items are revised and 4 of them are rejected or discarded. Based on the calculation result, the writer concluded that the English Summative Test which was administered at MTs. Fajrul Islam Kalideres Jakarta could be categorized as a good test. From 50 items, 64% items were accepted, 28% items need to be revised, and 8% have to be discarded and replace.
