Abstrak
The objective of the research is to find the empirical evidence on the effectiveness of using Jigsaw technique in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text to the first year students of SMAN 108 Jakarta. The writer used an experimental method. The population of the research was 192 students in the first year. The samples were 70 students taken from two classes using purposive cluster sampling technique. The writer collected the data by using pre-test and post-test as the instrument of the research. The technique of data analysis used in the research was through the t-test formula. The result of the Lilliefors analysis shows that the data of experimental and control classes are normally distributed. Furthermore, the result of t-test gives 4.10 for t-observed and 2.00 for t-table. Because to > tt (4.10 > 2.00), it is concluded that the use of Jigsaw technique is effective in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text to the first year students of SMAN 108, South Jakarta, in the 2009 ? 2010 academic year. It is expected that the findings of this research will enrich the knowledge related to the students? reading comprehension and Jigsaw technique. In addition, the findings are also expected to be able to serve as reference point for teachers to use the Jigsaw technique in the classroom.
