Abstrak
The purpose of this research is to discover the effectiveness of using Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) technique in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text to the second grade students of junior high school. The writer used an experimental method in this research. The population of the research was all the second grade students of SMPN 5 Kota Tangerang Selatan. The samples were taken from two classes of the second grade. The writer took 37 students for the samples in each class. The data that the writer got from the research were using the t-test formula. The result of this research shows that using Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text is effective. The result is tobserved = 4.33 and ttable = 2.00 with 0.05 significance level. Because to > tt, it means that there is a significant improvement of the students? achievement in reading comprehension of narrative text by using Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) technique. The research findings are expected to be useful for the students to help them improve their general language skills in English by reading comprehension of narrative text. In addition, it gives information to the teachers to know the models of cooperative technique in order to make the teaching and learning activities better and more effective.
