Abstrak
The basic problem of this paper is whether the English Summative Test item for the second grade in the 2008/2009 academic year at SMP AL-Hasra Sawangan Depok has good qualities of difficulty level, discrimination power and effectiveness of distracters or in order words how quality of the English Summative test items are. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to find out whether the English Summative test can be categorized as a qualified test. The English Summative test consists of 40 multiple choice items and 5 essays. For practical purpose, the writer will simply analyze multiple choices. It can be analyzed using analysis method. This research uses quantitative and qualitative analysis as the methods. Quantitative method is used to establish the facility value and discriminating power. Qualitative analysis is used to analyze the causes of the weakness of the test items. The result of quantitative analysis will be used for identifying the weak items that need revision. The respondents of this research were the students of 2 classes. It is 61 students. The respondents were divided into two groups; who got the highest score upper group and the lower group. From each group the writer only took 25% or 15 students. This research shows that out of 40 items only 6 items should be revised, 1item is discarded and 33 items have good quality. From that information, it was concluded the English Summative test which was administered in SMP AL-Hasra Sawangan Depok can be categorized as a good test.
