Abstrak
The objective of this research is to find out the relationship between syntax mastery and students? TOEFL competences at the University of Muhammadiyah Prof. DR. HAMKA. The writer used a survey involving a correlation analysis. The respondent population was 210 students of the 4th semester of the University of Muhammadiyah Prof. DR. HAMKA. The writer took 33 students randomly as the samples of the research. The result of the data analysis showed that the coefficient t-observed is higher than t-table (to > tt) = (3.99 > 1.70). It means that there is a relationship between syntax mastery and students? TOEFL competences at the 4th semester of the University of Muhammadiyah Prof. DR. HAMKA. The result of this research is expected to be helpful for the school especialy for the English teacher, to help them in designing the next program for the students. Thus, the students? ability in syntax can be improved. The writer also hopes the research can be useful for the other readers.
